Last year, I had the opportunity to photograph Sylvia for her senior portraits in Apple Hills and it was the best experience ever. I’ve never met Sylvia in person before the shoot. We’ve only talked on the phone after being connected by her Uncle. Her Uncle follows me on Instagram and Facebook and contacted me to get nice photos that will capture her personality. He left it up to Sylvia and me to plan the rest.
Sylvia loves books and is a goofball. When asked about her vision for her senior portraits, she said she really like outdoor photos. She said she even has a dress that she’d love to wear for the shoot. We originally planned for the photoshoot to be in Elk Grove but after I went to Apple Hill for an Instagram meet, I became obsessed with this vision of a girl in a pretty dress, hair down, holding a handful of balloons, running down the grassy row of the apple orchard. I told her of my vision and she was hooked on the idea.
Since apples are no longer in season, we brought along our own apples so we can “planted” them on the trees. It took us a good 5 minutes to get those apples to stay but oh boy! do they make for some fun laughing moments.
We faked laughing (and ended up laughing for real).
The day before the shoot, I had another idea and asked her to bring all of her favorite books to the shoot as well.
I wanted her to stack them up and sit on them but they were too small. LoL.. So instead, we spread all of the books on the floor and pretended that we were reading. I was standing on a stepping stool here, right on top of her. It took some balancing to not fall down since the ground wasn’t completely flat.
I was in love with that natural smile; the way her eyes became so small and happy that you know that the pearly whites are showing brightly underneath that book.
