Last month, I had to pleasure to photograph Lauren for her senior graduation photos. Her Mom and I knew of each other through Instagram a while back. Lauren and her Mom run an online cheerleading clothing company called Herkie 13. Lauren cheered in high school and has been in tracks all through high school and college. So when her Mom told me that Lauren wants me to take her sport photos, I got super excited!!!!
I shoot outdoor so much but sport is really new to me. I was so excited for the challenge so I got a bunch of inspirations from Pinterest. Needless to say, all of my inspirations came by Nike and Adidas ads. We met at Folsom Lake College because they have a really nice field that we can take photos in.
My goal for the shoot: I wanted to capture her STRENGTH, SPEED AND CONFIDENCE.
After track photos, we headed to Folsom Lake to shoot Lauren in her second outfit. She told me she wanted these photos by the water. Folsom Lake made sense to us since it has water, rocks and pretty plans. It was cloudy that day and we came about 1 hour before sunset so we had the most beautiful light to work with. Since it was cloudy, I even had her face the sun the whole time. If you follow my work, you know that I hardly ever do this as facing the sun can create harsh shadows and can be very unflattering. But since it’s cloudy, it was acceptable.
And to be honest, Lauren doesn’t really have anything that’s unflattering. I gave her a few directions on what to do and how to pose and BAM!!!! She got it!!! Almost every photo I took of her was adorable! That candid laugh is just so adorable to me.
Her Mom and I had talked about Mother and daughter photos before this so during this time, her Mom joined in on a few of these photos as well. Aren’t these images so sweet?Lately I’ve been practicing to get really “engaging” photographs. So when I shoot with more than one person, my approach is to “get closer…hug…wrap your arms around the other person.”
To me, a great photograph is not just getting the camera setting right but I also need to get you to express the right body language through that photograph. So hug away and laugh away!!!!
Congratulations on graduating with your Bachelor Degree from William Jessup University, Lauren! I am so happy for you and I know that your parents are so proud of your hard work and perseverance. I wish you the best with your future endeavor. *hugs and happy face***
