Last year, I got to work with the ladies of Miss Vietnam Sacramento for the first time ever and I love each and every girl I met. When I was in college, I was the President of the Vietnamese Student Association. I worked with the Vietnamese community leaders to put on such pageant and programs during our annual Lunar New Year Celebration. After graduation, I moved to Sacramento and was disconnected for a long time. As a photographer, I felt this was the best way to reach out and be a part of the community again. Not only to keep our culture alive in the U.S. but to also bring awareness so others can see how vibrant our tradition is.
This first set of photos is for the ao dai calendar that the Miss Vietnam Sacramento (MVNS) put out yearly.
The 2nd set is our Princess Series. I love creating beauty portraits of women and I thought, who doesn’t grow up watching all of the Disney movies and wishing that one day, she can me made to feel like a princess as well?
Here are my takes to the very modern princess portraits using tulles skirts that I made myself. As for the flowers in their hair, we made them on the spot. *Talk about being extra resourceful and creative, huh?**
For the 3rd look, the girls get to wear the outfit of their choice, something that express who they are and what they like.
More than a beauty pageant, MVNS is more building communities, having fun and forming new friendships. Cheers to another year of fun and laughter.
