Last night Henry and I met up with some of our photographer friends in Old Sac to capture the New Year Eve Firework show. I’ve been in Sac for 8 years now but this is the first year I got to see the firework in person. Since we got there early, I went around to scout locations. By the entrance to the dock seemed like the best location. The Tower Bridge was all it up and looking gorgeous. At a 6 second exposure shot, f/8, 100 ISO, this capture would have been perfect.
When the actual firework show started though, the light on the bridge was shut off. So at 6 seconds, this was the shot that I was getting. Still pretty but you can’t really see the Tower bridge anymore.
I freaked out a bit, then changed it to a 10 second capture. ISO up to 200 now.So you can see the bridge a bit better. The bridge was still dark so I lifted it up a bit in editing.
At the end, this was the shot that I got at 20 seconds, f/8, ISO 200 on a 35mm Sigma Art lens. Here are some closeup of busting firework that I thought are really pretty:
Old Sac was popping on New Year Eve. There was live music, food, and Christmas celebration all around.I saw a couple with lights in their hair so I asked if they would volunteer for me to capture some light trail. The light in her hair was blue and green and white so it looks like something out of Star War. In the middle, I used a LED light and wrote “LOVE” across.
More close up of a couple busting fireworks that look like art work.
For the 12 o’clock show, we stayed by the water. Under the dock, you can see the Delta King on the water and the Ziggurat Building across the water.
When zoomed up, you can see the dirt field where they shot the fireworks from too. Pretty cool, huh? I was really surprised by this capture.
My 24-70mm lens was a bit heavy, so when I was adjusting it, the focal slid a bit so that’s why you can see all those light points on the boat “dropped”.
Though not the best out there, this photo below of fireworks busting over the river with the reflection on the water looks so much like a postcard. I’m pretty proud to share it with you.
