Meili & Jay’s Maternity Photosession at Elk Grove Regional Park

TRA_7964

Meili and Jay are pregnant.  These new parents are waiting patiently (and excitedly) for their baby to come at the end of November. They live in Stockton so 2 weeks ago, we met up at Elk Grove Regional Park to take their maternity photos. This was my first time at Elk Grove Park so I arrived a bit early to scope out some beautiful spots for them. Elk Grove Park has a beautiful lake that we spent the majority of our time taking pictures there because I love the weeping willows so much.

Jay had a hard time giving me some natural smiles so I had to get a little creative.

“Jay, stand with your back to the tree. Now you guys just and look at your wife”. (It’s hard to not smile when you’re looking at the mother of your child so of course he cracked up.

“Now put your forehead together and crack some jokes.”

“Never mind, just put your nose together and say, “Wiggle!!! Wiggle!!!”

{lol} Forget about them laughing, I was laughing so hard looking at them laughing.

Since Meili has the baby to hold on to, I thought I’d give Jay a little pumpkin so he doesn’t feel left out. It is only appropriate since we took pictures the week before Halloween.TRA_8075

Of course we can’t go without a photo of the handsome parents-to-be.

TRA_8113 TRA_8119Doesn’t Meili look so beautiful!!!! She is a vision.
(A lot of Moms are really sensitive and do not feel attractive with the baby weight they gained over the course of their pregnancies. Most often than not near the end, they are just ready to get it over with. But I see it differently and I’m sure her husband sees the same.

We see a beautiful woman who is so courageous for sacrificing her body, sleep and health to grow and nurture a new life that she and her husband created together. And pregnancy is only the first step.

With this mentality, my goal when I photograph maternity sessions is to show her how beautiful she really looks, to him and to their family and friends and to the world.

TRA_8221TRA_8148TRA_8177 TRA_8273TRA_8266Ladies, I get asked very often when is the best time to take maternity photos?

The ideal time to take maternity photos is 30- 36 weeks.
This ensures that in case your baby decides to come a bit early, you are covered. Your baby usually drops lower the closer to you are to your due date, making mobility more difficult. The last month before you’re due, your face usually swell a bit too. It doesn’t happen to everyone but it happens. So the best time is between 30- 36 weeks.
